Tests and Exams at CSC
What is a proctor?
Canadian Scholars Collegiate courses require that students write closed-book unit tests and a final exam at the end of each course (unless otherwise specified). This hard-copy test or exam must be written in the presence of an approved proctor either in-person or online. The reason why CSC has chosen this approach is that without a proctor there are limited ways to control time limits, the use of notes, online tools and help from other individuals. Further, with university admissions more competitive than ever, preparing student for post-secondary is of utmost importance. Adhering to these standards also allows us to maintain good standing with the Ministry of Education and post-secondary institutions.
Option 2: Online Proctoring Service — Optional
Students may use the CSC online proctoring service with an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT). This service is particularly helpful for students who are unable to find an in-person proctor or require last-minute test or exam arrangements. CSC strongly recommends scheduling the test or exam at least two days in advance to allow for proper teacher communication. To schedule a proctor for a test or exam, students must do the following:
What is a proctor?
A proctor is an individual who meets with a student to witness the test or final exam being written and attests that all procedures were properly followed. The date, time, place, and proctor for a student’s final exam are selected by the student but must be approved by the OES office. To learn more about who can be a proctor please visit our FAQ page or see below for more details.
How does it work?
Once you get to a test or exam in your CSC course that needs to be proctored please ensure all unit tasks are complete. Once they are, email your teacher to let them know you want to write the test or exam. If you are finding your own proctor please ensure they have completed the proctor form which can be found in the general resources section of the course. Once we get the proctor details we will send it to your teacher to keep on file to correspond throughout the course for the proctored items. Always keep your teacher inform about the day and time you want to write your assessments so they can schedule the items accordingly.
Option 1: Proctoring Arranged by the Student
The student may arrange their own proctor to meet with them in person for the purpose of invigilating the test or exam. This is written at a time, place and location that is most comfortable and safe for the student. The student must apply to write the test or final exam a minimum of 48-72 hours prior to the proposed date by having the proctor complete the OES Proctor Form which is available in your course. In order to be approved, any in-person exam proctor must meet all of the following criteria:
